Beating the 3 PM Slump

Beating the 3 PM Slump

When the 3 PM slump hits, it's tempting to crawl under your desk for a quick nap. The good news is, there are ways to beat, or even prevent, the 3 PM slump while still maintaining proper office etiquette.

Make Sure You Are Eating a Nutritious Breakfast and Lunch

It is often tempting to skip breakfast as you rush out of the house to make it to work on time, or miss lunch when you get busy midday, but eating nutritious meals is important if you want to have energy throughout your day. Filling your meals with energizing protein instead of energy-sapping carbs is essential.

Eat a Healthy Snack

Food is energy, so it makes sense that grabbing a quick snack will help you feel more alert. When choosing the right snack, try foods with some complex carbohydrates and plenty of protein. These are ideal as they will digest quickly, but will also keep you filled until dinner.

Drink Plenty of Water

We are constantly being told how important hydration is and how it can help with almost every aspect of our health. As your body becomes dehydrated, you begin to feel less energetic and less focused. Make sure you get into the habit of drinking enough water throughout the day and you will feel better as the afternoon rolls around. You should make sure to drink water throughout the day, not only when you're thirsty.

Go for a Quick Walk

Many jobs require a level of being sedentary. Jobs that require you to sit at a desk and stare at a computer all day can be really draining for both your body and mind. Throughout the day, it is important to either stand or go for a quick walk every hour. It will help boost productivity and refresh your mind and body. While you're up, why not refill your water bottle too!

Turn on Some Music

Music can be extremely effective at boosting your mood and can give you a mini opportunity to escape reality. Throw on your favorite playlist, get lost in the beat, and then come back to your work refreshed and ready to go!

Adjust Your Posture

That 3 PM slump can literally result in a slumped posture. Straightening your posture can give you energy and boost your confidence. Next time you are feeling tired, start by stretching your arms out, then your legs, and finally boost up your torso to sit up straight. Not only is this alignment good for your body, you will also find that you feel less tired and stressed.
