How did you get started in the fitness industry?
After college, I had a friend who landed his first gig in the fitness industry at the YMCA. He invited me to meet his boss, and I ended up getting a job there. I taught my first class because an instructor canceled at the last minute. I was terrified, but I did it anyway. It was such a great experience.
That initial opportunity led to everything else I have done over the past 10 years. After that class, I pursued other specialties, and here we are today!
What drew you to MYX?
I heard about MYX through two friends, Garner and Coach Dyan. They both speak highly of the MYX team, production staff, and community. Building community and positively impacting people has always been important to me, and MYX seemed like a great fit.
What’s your favorite way to move?
I'm Puerto Rican. I love rhythm stuff, because it feels like I'm dancing. So the bike has always been a way for me to get my cardio in and have fun. It’s also great for cross-training because I'm a runner. But I'm also huge on strength training. Kettlebells are my babies.
What advice do you have for someone just starting their fitness journey?
The biggest obstacle is overcoming the mental hurdles of doing something unfamiliar and uncomfortable. There's so much growth that comes from that. So, go ahead. Be a little freaked out, but do it anyway.
What makes your heart happy?
I love traveling and hanging out with friends. I'm a coffee and chit chat kind of gal.
Welcome, Miriam Alicea. We’re glad to have you!
