Our totally new total body sculpt

Our totally new total body sculpt

By Erika Shannon-Hathaway

At MYX, we believe in creating every opportunity possible to get in some great heart rate training. To that end, we’ve recently revamped our classic Total Body Sculpt workout to give our members more bang for their buck! Even though the format of our Total Body Sculpt workouts is unique, the moves may look familiar to you: You can expect upper and lower body exercises of all intensities, weighted and unweighted.

Our new Total Body Sculpt formats are based on a concept called Peripheral Heart Action Training (PHA). It's similar to circuit training, but there are two specific elements of PHA that make it so heart-friendly.

First, PHA training is performed with little to no rest in between exercises, which builds cardiovascular endurance by eliminating recovery time. Second, PHA training alternates between upper and lower body exercises, forcing blood flow from one end of the body to the other, over and over again. This increases calorie expenditure and theoretically burns more fat and increases lean muscle mass.

If weight loss is what you're after, PHA training is a great option because of its cardio and strength components. You may not get to Zone 3 in these workouts, but you should cross the Zone 2 threshold and see yourself elevated there most of the time.

PHA training is safe for most people, unless you have severe high/low blood pressure deviation or if you are pregnant and in your second or third trimester. If that’s the case, you can still do our Total Body Sculpt workouts, but you may want to add some rest in between moves to recover.*

Jump onto your mat and give our PHA inspired Total Body Sculpt a try today!

*As with all physical conditioning programs, if you have any health issues or are someone who might be at risk, consult your physician or healthcare provider before starting an exercise program.
