Whatever the task at hand, MYX member Rocio gives it her all. The former schoolteacher and mother to a three-year-old boy hiked Mount Fuji twice and completed a three-day trail in Machu Picchu, Peru. Movement is her therapy and a source of great joy.
That’s why, when the pandemic hit, Rocio found herself in a bit of a funk. The gyms were closed, which meant no spin class. Like many former gym fans, Rocio looked into her options for home workouts. "I saw an article comparing the MYX bike with another one," she says. "It said MYX has everything you need, and it's a really good bike, especially when you consider all the features and the price."
Rocio says she mulled over the decision before committing in April of 2020. Her only regret is that she didn’t do it sooner. "I'm really happy with the purchase," she says. "It’s one of the best things I bought for myself. Because as a mom, you tend to lose focus on yourself."
MYX has meant a sense of community and motivation for her over these last several months. She says the coaches and members inspire her to do better and be better every day. That admiration is mutual. Rocio first appeared on our radar when she became an active member of the MYXfitness member Facebook group and later the administrator. The group has more than 3,000 members and is growing.
Impressed by her dedication to the MYX community, we set up a chat between her and Coach Shaun. Here’s a glimpse into their conversation.
Coach Shaun: The MYX member Facebook group has gained a lot of traction in the last year. Why do you think it’s so popular?
Rocio: The members set the tone themselves. The main thread is filled with positive experiences or questions that have not been asked before. It’s fun to welcome new members into the group. I want it to be a welcoming and safe place for people to share their experiences, especially if they're struggling. That way, they can feel like they're not alone. It’s a pleasure to connect with everyone.
Coach Shaun: Why do you MYX?
Rocio: For a while, I let myself and my health go by the wayside. My focus was on my son for so long, but he's three and a half now. He's more independent, so I can keep him busy while I work out. I want to feel good and more confident, so I started using the SmartMYXTM system, which I love.
In general, the MYX system encourages and motivates. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say we appreciate every class you offer because they do make a difference, mentally and physically. I need to focus more on those aspects, and MYX makes it easy to do so.
Coach Shaun: Wow! You inspire me with everything you’ve gone through and continue to go through. You’ve accomplished so much, and it seems like you have your sights set on achieving more. I’m interested in learning how fitness fits "into the MYX" for you in 2021.
Rocio: I was slim before having my son. But when you’re a new mom, you don’t have much extra free time. It's hard to find 10 minutes to exercise because you're so busy taking care of this new life.
So for me, losing weight was a struggle until I found a program that helped me eat healthy by finding the right foods. But I also got moving. I bought a baby carrier so I could take my son hiking with me.
Plus, using the SmartMYXTM recommendation system has helped me start tackling my goal. MYX helps by guiding me out of my comfort zone. I’d like to lose about 15 more pounds and continue building endurance.
Just like Rocio, you could be the next MYX member to have a one-on-one with your favorite coach. Use #MYXitup on Instagram so we can find you.
